In a recent revelation, Nyesom Wike, the Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), expressed remorse over his appeal to the former Chairman of the PDP in Rivers State, Felix Obuah, and other gubernatorial hopefuls of the party to step aside for Governor Siminalayi Fubara.
According to Thisday's report, Wike made this admission during a thanksgiving service organized by Obuah in Omoku over the weekend. He earnestly implored the people of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area to pardon him for not supporting their fellow citizen in his bid to succeed him as governor. While acknowledging the fulfillment of his team's role in the peace accord initiated by President Bola Tinubu and endorsed by all parties involved in the state's political turmoil, Wike expressed gratitude to Obuah for his magnanimous and forgiving spirit.
Wike emphasized that leadership requires steadfastness, courage, and transparency. Acknowledging his decision's wrongfulness, especially in denying Obuah the opportunity to succeed him, Wike reflected on his longstanding relationship with the former state PDP chairman that dates back to 2004. Despite the challenges Obuah faced during Wike's tenure, the former governor praised Obuah's unwavering loyalty and urged forgiveness from the people of ONELGA for the decision that caused them distress.
Recognizing the fallibility of human judgment, Wike, as a leader, emphasized the importance of acknowledging mistakes and offering sincere apologies to the people. He extended his heartfelt apology to all, urging them to appeal to Go Round (Obuah) for forgiveness. Wike concluded optimistically, hoping that another opportunity might arise in the future and encouraged everyone not to lose faith in the face of adversities.
