Ondo Deputy Governor Signs and Submits Undated Resignation Letter to President Bola Tinubu

The deliberations at the State House of Assembly during the plenary on Tuesday, November 28, shed light on the resolutions reached with President Tinubu on the night of Friday, November 24. Contrary to expectations, Aiyedatiwa is to persist as the deputy governor and will not ascend to the position of governor, as initially speculated. Intriguingly, the lawmakers disclosed that the deputy governor is obligated to endorse an undated letter of resignation, a safeguard should he deviate from the accord brokered with the president. Three political figures from Ondo state have been designated to oversee the compliance of all involved parties with the resolution.

The Speaker, Olamide Oladiji, elucidating the Assembly's stance, enumerated key points from their meeting with the President. These include the continuation of Aiyedatiwa's duties as Deputy Governor, a collective commitment to peace by all parties, the maintenance of the status quo, immediate termination of all impeachment proceedings and withdrawal of court cases, and the imperative submission of an undated resignation letter signed by the Deputy Governor to the President.

Dispelling rumors, President Bola Tinubu clarified the day following his meeting with the deputy governor, lawmakers, and stakeholders that he did not instruct the swearing-in of Lucky Aiyedatiwa as the acting governor. The protracted political crisis in Ondo state, triggered by Governor Akeredolu's prolonged absence due to health reasons, has cast a shadow over the governance of the state.
