Eedris Abdulkareem has suggested that the federal government’s proposed N8,000 monthly palliative geared towards cushioning the effect of fuel subsidy removal is a “scam”.

On Thursday, President Bola Tinubu asked the senate to approve a borrowing request of $800 million, intended to bolster the national social safety net program.

Tinubu said the loan would be obtained from the World Bank.

He further assured that the government would allocate N8,000 monthly to 12 million impoverished and low-income households over a span of six months.

Reacting to the announcement, Eedris took to his Instagram page on Friday to voice his dissent.

He argued that offering handouts or palliatives to Nigerians is an insufficient solution.

He also emphasised the need for the federal government to prioritise productivity, which he believes will ultimately generate prosperity.

“Palliatives is a scam! Nigerians don’t need handouts, they need productivity that will lead to prosperity,” he wrote.
