 By Emmanuel Udom

Chudi Mountain is a blind musician, who desires to use music as a tool to serve our society, our world.

In this interview with buzztimes.ng, Mountain, an indigene of Delta State, spoke on how he intend to go about this humanitarian, Godly mission, his growing up years and his track records as a musician.

What inspired you to go into music?

Well. I will say, it is more or less a talent. I possibly inherited from my parents. Right from my growing up years, I have been singing in churches and playing guitar during social gatherings across states in Nigeria.

So, what is your mission, considering the fact that you are blind and a pensioner?

My mission is to preach the gospel of peace, love, unity and togetherness to our societies, our entire world through music. This is my Godly, humanitarian mission. I also plan to travel our world playing music. .

How many albums have you released so far?

As I said earlier, while growing up, I was singing for free so to say in churches, mosques and social gatherings. But, from the 1980s till date I have waxed quite a number of albums.

Do you belong to any music association?

Yes, I am a member of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria, PMAN, as well as Nigerian Copy Rights Council. In 1989, I vied for the chairmanship position of PMAN, alongside Dele Abiodun, Onyeaka Onwenu, and Skid Ikemefuna. Unfortunately, I did not win.

Also, I registered my music brand-Chudi & His Mountain Top Band in Abuja in 1997. I have a certificate to show for the registration.

 What are your challenges?

Despite the fact that I am blind, this is not an obstacle. But, with sponsorships from public spirited individuals and corporate bodies, I should be able to release more inspirational songs for our world and also hire marketers to spread my albums nationwide.

Where are you from and how do you relax?

I am from Delta State. Before I became blind, I used to relax by reading novels. But, now, I listened to music and also radio to get abreast with events at the local, state, national and international levels.

How do you earn an income?

I play and sing at churches, mosques as well as social gatherings. I am also a pensioner. However, with sponsorships, and a good marketer, I should be able to wax more records.
